Okay I admit to watching Judging Amy. frankly the show is trite and annoying (a recent episode about goths made me cringe), but it's on after ER and I do like Tyne Daly. This quote today though, caught my ear:

Amy: He's an adult with an empty bookcase. How can you be an adult with an empty bookcase. I just don't understand"

.... of course the quote was ruined for me by having to listen to the Don Henly version of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows". It was painful to hear I song I like raped like that.

that quote is really rather good.
I feel somewhat justified in having a room overrun with books now - thankyou :oD

No problem, it made me feel better too.

BTW, did you get the email I sent about the tutoring opportunity? I sent it from my LSE account to your @livejournal address. I just wanted to make sure it got there in one piece. :)

I actually meant to mention your email, but somehow it only drifted into my mind after posting the comment (always the way!). Thanks for thinking of me, but (as you said) I'm really not sure where I'll be next year, so I'd hate to commit myself and then let her down. I'll keep it in mind tho :-)

No problem, I'm just in the mood of not trusting technology, so I thought I'd check. :)

i can certainly identify with that one. i hate getting all these results by email, because I don't really trust it as an official medium - I keep staring at my screen wonder if the numbers will change ;o)

At least you're getting them. DESTIN's exam board doesn't meet until October, and I think it's the same with Anthropology. Count your blessing, at least you know you passed :P

I have seen a lot of people in their 20's and 30's that avoid books like kryptonite.

Not everyone reads. Although everyone should.

I myself do not read enough. Particularly newspapers. And I am working on this.

I saw once in a book approxamatly titled "The Top 10 Secerts to Success that They Never Taught You in Business School" one of the chapters was called "Stop Reading: It takes too much time."

That is the kind of sad mentality that educated people are up against. Our corperate masters want everyone to stop reading and watch TV and buy usless crap that we don't need.

I know this intellectually, I just don't understand it. Has to do with how I was raised, as well as the fact that I surround myself with readers - geeks and academics.

I don't like it either. But that is the way it goes. Do you remeber the "Reading is Fundamental RIF" ads from the 80's. maybe we need to bring those back.
