Burlington Meet

It was a long weekend, so I shall update in bits and pieces, first up: the meet.

I drove up on Saturday to Bellingham, saw Spiderman with Sean (more on that later) and then hung out and had lunch with Cody, Luke, and Sean. Then I drove back to Burlington, checked into my el cheapo motel room and went off to practice. This was followed by dinner, grocery shopping and killing time until 11 PM, when I had to be back at the rink to help with set up. That went well and I was out of there by 12:30. Then it was to bed.

4 am signaled the beginning of my day. The rink opened at 5 and I had already fallen by 6. During warm-ups with one of my JO teammates a kid fell in front on her and I fell over her. I barley even tapped my knee on the ground, but it proceeded to swell up nicely which put a nice damper on the rest of my meet.

Once JO started I was a placement judge and that went amazingly well. People were racing clean and it all just kind of clicked. Once I started racing it was a different matter.

My 500m went okay, I got out of my heat by beating Salomé and did okay in the final. Salomé dropped out of the 2000m, so we went straight to a final. This is the point where I proceed to get my ass whupped. I got lapped out after 8 laps. That is my worst showing in the last 2 season. Even with a messed up hip I have done better. Falling off the line, I have done better. It was embarrassing. It was a joke. I sincerely hope that I got my lousy racing out of the way so I can skate well in Portland next month. If I pull that kind of stunt again I'll be too embarrassed to show my face in the Northwest Region.

On a good note, after the meet I went out to breakfast with my team, and everyone commented on how well the meet went, which is a major kudos to my buds in Burlington. They did such an awesome job and it should only get easier for them from now on.

Now it's off to bed. More later.
