2 JUSTWATCH Articles
These two really caught my eye when trying to empty my Inbox of the mess it has become. Enjoy.
First up is more proof that (a)TV news is generally not my friend and (b) how glad I am that I was in London for the war. As the subject on the email said Watching FOX News makes you ignorant. The long and the short of it is (and there are more details in the article) that "researchers from the Program on International Policy at the University of Maryland found that those who relied on Fox for their news were more likely than those who relied on any other news source to have what the study called "significant misperceptions" about the war in Iraq."
Next up is an article about a UN report that confirms what I've been thinking since the start of Bush's little "war on terror"- basically that it has radicalized arabs (and I think others). I love it when reports reflect what common sense tells us. It makes me smile (even if the subject doesn't). A copy of the NYT article is here. If you want to look at the whole 217-page report, there's a link to a PDF of it at the bottom of this page.
Now off to send out resumes.

2) The hell I'll trust the UN. Any organization that denies membership to democratic Taiwan, yet has seats for Zimbabwe, can go to hell.

2) Not saying the UN is full of geniuses (esp re membership policy) but they do tend to get the best and brightest to write their reports. I often have a similar feeling looking at World Bank reports - I'm not always gung-ho on their policies, but they can serve as a decent information source. Besides, in this case common bloody sense was telling me the same thing ages ago.

I'll trust them about as much as I used to trust Pravda.

Don't take it to court but
1: Osama bin Ladin (or as we used to call him around the Fort "UBL")
and Al Qida have strong CIA ties. Both were armed and funded heavily by the CIA in the 80's.
2: The Bush Regiem achived political legitamacy. All of the controversy that surrounded the corruption of the 2000 election was forgoten overnight and America rallyed around a weak president that many people doubted actually was the president.
3: All loyal opposition collapesed. The weak unorganized shattered Democratic Party just bacame little more of a rubber stamp.
4: Consititutional rights have been shredded across American life. The government can throw you in jail indefinatly with out a lawyer, and without charging you all on suspsion of terrorist ties or terrorism.
5: The Bush Administration can use the attacks as justification for funneling large amounts of tax dollors to their constituents, the defence and energy industries.
6: Organizations that are not friends of the people like the US intelligence community and the Justice Department recieved broad new sweeping powers and resources.
There is more but these items are the most obvious and best items that I can think of. Is it any wonder that good educated people can be persuaded to think tha the 9-11 atttacks were a conspiricy beyond Al Qada and terrorism.
Please for God's sake vote for someone almost anyone else in the 2004 election.
