After meeting with my tutor this morning and checking out a massive pile of books from the library, I finally went to see X2. I figured £4.25 at Surrey Quays is as cheap as a new-release movie ticket gets in this town. All I have to say about the movie is:

Oh......My.......God

Oh, and can I have Alan Cumming? Pretty please?

X2 is sooo much better than the first one. Better story, better character development, better acting and better costumes. I think pretty much everyone did a good to excellent job, but I was very much pleased by both Alan Cumming and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. Cumming's accent was fabulous, as was his characterisation overall. Romijn-Stamos, I was glad to note, got some real screen time this time (I'm assuming they somehow found a way to cut at least a little of the time she had to spend in a make-up chair). The interaction between her and Magneto was priceless, as was the the moment in the base when they're breaking through the door. She stands up and is totally the inhuman goddess, the door cracks, she flinches and suddenly you remember that she is human, no matter what else she may be. It was a very nice moment.
Also sweet was the scene in the President's office. The lighting effect was nice, but I also liked how James Marsden was twitching. It's hard to convey emotion without eyes, but the fact that he was twitching through quite a bit of that caught my eye.

So, yeah I really liked this one, more so than the first. The only real down bit for me was the fact that the movie theatre was freezing, reminding me why I hate movie theatres. A long skirt, sweatshirt, and wrap and I was still chilly. Oh well, on the flip side I was in a theatre with like 9 or 10 people, none of whom sat in front of or near me,it was almost like my own private screening. *grin* The only thing better would have been people to geek out with afterwords.
Now it's time for dinner and more reading. I took quite the break this afternoon, so I need to get some work done tonight.
