I already had a Dreamwidth journal, so tonight I am doing a last LJ import and moving my show over there. Same user name, probably just about as much (little) posting.

Hey, I have a toddler and I was never a great poster to begin with.

For those who might be interested over the last two days I have posted a couple of recipes over at Isllah's Recipes. First up was sour cream cookies followed by the Harvey Wallbanger pie that went over so well at my birthday party.

This endeth the pimping of a project I have been ignoring.

Yeehaw! The car has magically fixed itself. The ABS light turned off on the way to work this morning. I called the shop and they said that the system probably just got confused with the fishtailing and lack of traction. Since it has reset itself, there is no need to take it to the shop.
This makes up for the fun Sean is having with the dryer repairman.

Yup, its that time of year again. Since my birthday is a Monday I am planning on celebrating a few days late. Just like last year, it's a pie party. Bring a pie, sweet or savory (or not). We will hang, chat, maybe watch a movie, play a game or something else amusing. If we decide there is not enough pie, then we will get pizza pie from Stellar.

The Details
What: Pie Party to celebrate Kyna's Birthday
Where:Kyna and Sean's House - message me if you need address and/or directions
When: Saturday February 5th, 5:30 PM until whenever
Who: You, and some tasty, tasty pie

Yes, I know this is short notice, life has been.... challenging recently. If you can't make it, I won't be mortally insulted.

To quote Sean: "Pie r good"

Hope to see there!

On Saturday over at they blogged about this short a couple of days ago. I just got to watch it and it is so delightful that I thought I should share. Six minutes about a little boy who wants to be Tim Burton when he grows up made my morning much better.

Hey [ profile] oddmanrush (and anyone else who cares) tickets for the Cowboy Junkies show in Covington (actually Kent) on October 2nd are now available. Use the link here to buy tickets.

For those who might be interested, I am going with my mother. Tickets are $30 ($28 if you are over 55). I have seats D2 and D4, four rows back from the stage on the left side of the seating chart.

Don't know who the Cowboy Junkies are? Blasphemy! Listen and learn at their website. They are fabulous in person.

So, the company that we order our meat from, Thundering Hooves, has gotten their hands on some Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon. They are offering it at $9.99/lb. The catch? It comes, frozen, in 17.6 lb box at a cost of $176

Now, this is a GREAT deal, but there is no way Sean and I can eat this on our own. Anyone want to split with us? We'll take care of ordering and pick up, you just help with the cost and the eating of all that tastiness.

From Thundering Hooves' Website
Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon 17.6 lbs.
Available for a limited time only! Sustainably-caught by family-owned, Seattle-based Snopac, this wild Alaskan Sockeye salmon from Bristol Bay can be simply grilled with salt and pepper or saved for a salmon chowder to warm you this winter. The salmon is priced to you at $9.99 per pound and arrives in an 8kg frozen box (17.6 lbs.) with approximately 10 fillets at 28 oz. each. If freezer space is tight for you, consider sharing this opportunity with friends and splitting the box.

Offering this wonderful salmon at a good sale price is part Thundering Hooves' new program to seek out other locally-based, environmentally-sustainable producers of quality food.

Sean and I are talking about going to see see "Salt" on Thursday evening. I am leaning towards Southcenter, though I might be talked into downtown. Does anyone want to come with us? Time is flexible.

I just posted the recipe for lime meltaways over at Isllah's Recipes. These are the cookies I served at July 4th and that I brought to tea last weekend at the Lovely's. Feel free to make some yourself and tell me how it goes. I think these would convert nicely to gluten-free, for any of you who want to give that a shot.

While perusing Amazon's 100 MP3 Albums for $5 I ran across something that might be of interest to some of you. They have the Labyrinth soundtrack, currently priced at just $5. If you ever thought about buying it, this would be a good time to do so. There are of course, many other fine options in the pile (as well as scary ones), but I leave you do discover those on your own.
trilliumgrl: (Ballet Shoes)
Last night we went to see PNB's brand new production of Coppélia, which is gorgeous. [ profile] seanb and I have been getting a little snobby about story ballets, but this one was genuinely funny and wonderfully danced. It was also full of those classic ballet tutus which swirl so nicely.

Now, I am lusting after one particular costume, the Spinner from Act III.

Admittedly, I would change the sleeves and maybe make the underskirt black, but I still am lusting over the patterns on the overskirt, which could be seen from our seats on the balcony. Besides, what little girl doesn't want a tutu?

Any ideas on how to recreate this? Getting the underskirt is easy, it's the top part that would take more work.

Okay, I am officially excited. The Cowboy Junkies, aka one of my all time favorite bands, has announced three, yes three tour dates in Washington. You can see them here. They are:

9/30/10 - Bellingham, WA (Mt. Baker Theatre)
10/1/10 - Edmonds, WA (Edmonds Center for the Arts)
10/2/10 - Covington, WA (Kentwood High Performing Arts Center)

Now the only issue is to decide which one to go to. Neither Bellingham nor Edmonds has the show up on their website yet, so I can't check ticket prices. I am excited to see them somewhere besides Benaroya Hall, since the acoustics there suck for even the mildest of rock n' roll.

Anyone else thinking about or want to go?
trilliumgrl: (Kyna Doll)
Sean pointed out to me this morning that I was one day off on my "days till the cast comes off" count. I thought I had 9 days, but I only have to suffer for 8 more days. *happy dance*

This plus raisin cinnamon brioche from Macrina for breakfast makes for a very happy Kyna..... even if I do have to go to work now.
trilliumgrl: Me, putting on make-up before the wedding (Morticia - bored)
So, I am still alive and I have 17 days left until my cast comes off (not like I'm counting or anything). I want to thank all of you for your lovely offers to keep me company. I have not taken you up on them, because generally speaking I have been exhausted. I make it work everyday and I come home, fall onto the couch and ice my leg and that is about all I am good for. I am also unpleasant to be around, since most of my vaunted independence has been stripped away and I have to ask Sean to do most things for me. This has made me a bit cranky. Even going out is difficult. We went to the ballet last Friday and sitting that long after having been to work caused my leg to swell in all sorts of unpleasant ways. So for now I sit at home and rest.

That said, once the cast comes off, I have plans to attempt to do all sorts of stuff. I won't be allowed to skate for several more months and I want to keep myself occupied and be able to see some people I don't see nearly enough.

Right now, the main front runners include:
- Potluck dinner maybe combined with a movie or game night
- Thrift store outing
- Trip to watch the Oly Rollers roller derby in Olympia

Any thoughts? Would you like to join me for any of this? Other ideas?

In other news I will be at Norwescon this weekend. I have rented a wheelchair, so you'll need to look a little lower to find me. Hopefully, this will make it a bit easier to get around, since using my crutches is rather tiring and I risk being knocked over. I am looking forward to seeing everyone as well as seeing Cory Doctorow, though I don't think I'll ask him to sign my Kindle.

Now I have to contemplate making it to the kitchen to get the dinner Sean left for me.
trilliumgrl: Me, putting on make-up before the wedding (Daria Skating)
So, I thought I would share what the current state of my leg looks like. On Thursday I go into my surgeon and he will muck with my current wrapping and I pray that it will go down to something more reasonable.
Cut for size, not gross )
I am feeling better, though getting around is still tough. The splinting weighs a fair amount and I am just not that great on crutches. Tomorrow, I go back to work, which is going to be an adventure. Luckily, my hero of a husband is going to drive me and all my stuff to Tukwila. We'll see if I can last a full 8 hours. Wish me luck.
trilliumgrl: Me, putting on make-up before the wedding (Anders and Starbuck mush)
As many of you know, in preparation for the wedding this weekend, I have been buying make-up. Using the collective wisdom of LJ and a test run courtesy of Nordstrom, I got myself some Bare Minerals foundation. I have also been digging around on Sephora's website, in an effort to restock some items. While doing this, I found something I had to try - Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer potion. I tested it out today, and I am in love. My eyeshadow went the entire day without a single crease. Even with base underneath, I've never gotten more than about 4 hours out of eyeshadow, one of the many reason I hardly ever bother with make-up.

This may well be the best $17 I've spent on this wedding. I had to share.

I would just like to say that Alan Cumming's introductions to Masterpiece Mystery make me all tingly.

You may now return to your non-tingly day.

Happy Birthday [personal profile] technocracygirl! Hope it is wonderful and all your birthday wishes come true. *hugs*

"if we can't identify the lowest achieving 10% of this country's children, then what are the school league tables for?"

This struke me as funny because really, what are school league tables for but to tag who will get fed to the alien monsters first?
