Tatum Park - Skating Wingeing
Mar. 29th, 2003 07:31 pmI went to Tatum Park today. It was a good run and I'm definitely starting to get the feel for the banked track, though I'm admittedly not crossing much. The surface and the company really don't allow me to play with it enough to get comfortable crossing. Every time I cross I pull away from the group, and that's just bad form.
The last thing we did today was a pursuit with a group chasing after my group, us trying to fend them off. We lasted a whopping 6 laps, as the other team had (a)every tall person and (b)the best guys there. The team I was on had all the girls plus Brian, none of whom have figured out how to effectively use the bank of the track (however slight) to their advantage. Mentioned this to Brian at the end, in the guise of asking a question, because quite frankly if you're going to schlep across town to skate on a banked track you might as well work it. Plus, sitting at the bottom of the bank does zippo for your form, since you constantly have to worry about hitting the margin with your inside foot, thus shortening up your stride.
Overall it was fun, I'm just getting...frustrated isn't not the right word...worn down. It's hard skating with people who have no idea of a lot of the technical speed skating stuff, and having my frame come lose every other time I go out on the road isn't helping either.
On a different wingey note I get to choose between skating at ExCel tomorrow and going to the South Shore in Essex(!). Normally this would be no contest, but I'm not completely sure ExCel is on. On the other hand, it gonna be at least £6 for me to get to/from Essex (on top of the cost of my weekend travelcard). I'm also faced with trying to not come up with a lame-ass (ie lazy) reason why I'm not bouncing to go to Essex.
*really wishing stupid english skaters could all play nice with each other*
Enough of that. I'm going to have a snack and then go watch Magnolia on BBC2.
