Cowboy Junkies (yes again)
Aug. 8th, 2001 11:12 pmOh my god! The Cowboy Junkies show was FRELLING AMAZING! It has been almost 24 hours and I’m still in awe and I can still hear the music running through my head. This was one of the rare cases when not only was the venue perfect (Benaroya Hall has great acoustics), but I got to hear a band that actually sounds BETTER live. Margo Timmins voice not only came through with amazing clarity, but you also got a chance to really hear the rest of the band shine, especially Michael Timmins on electric guitar. Though they are known for being mellow the junkies really can rock when they choose. I’m really glad I went.
The only downside to the evening was sitting on 3rd tier, which wasn’t too bad, but being sandwiched on all 4 sides by couples (several of which had a good 20-30 years on me) sucked. I saw one other person who came in alone. Gods I hate that. I am now even more determined to get my hands on a copy of the Junkies new album _Open_.
Best lines of last night (from Margo):
"This is a happy little song....about adultery *laughter* hey this is the Cowboy Junkies we don’t do happy little songs. You should know this, you bought the tickets."
"Maybe one day I’ll get my brother Michael to a shrink and he’ll start writing happy little songs" *laughter*
I was told today that they (i.e. my bosses) are definitely going to keep me for the rest of my time here. They’ll get me off my temp contract when they can and then I’ll have benefits, etc. Before I leave I’ll get the fun of training my successor to the job. This is great because this way I won’t feel guilty about running off to London.
All in all things are going well, but I am definitely missing people. Wish I could do something about it, but between my hours and running off to camp this weekend, I can’t make plans. Oh well take the bees with the honey I guess.
Time to sleep now.
