Oct. 3rd, 2001 11:10 pmI just finished watching a great piece of TV. Tonight 'The West Wing' ran a specially produced episode entitled "Isaac and Ishmael." The two main movements centered on a lockdown in the White House and a discussion between some high school kids who got stuck there and various White House staffers and the interrogation of an Arab-American White House staffer. They simply and beautifully brought together many viewpoints and they had their facts right (at least the ones I knew enough about to know for sure.) That and they had a question that I would love to see on the SAT Islamic Fundamentalist is to Islamic as ________ is to Christianity" The answers is KKK. If you did not get to see it I highly recommend seeing during rerun season.
The show also drove the point home that people do live with the threat of terrorism. A girl asked "what do you call a place where you have to worry that the Pizza Hut you're eating in is going to get blown up?" The reply "Israel." I would add to that, Basque areas of Spain, England, Belgrade, Chechnya, and a dozen others. Okay I feel a rant coming on and I have major email to read. Good night and may one peaceful night follow another for everyone.
P.S. Happy Birthday to both Emo and Matt!!!! *hugs*

Date: 2001-10-03 11:53 pm (UTC)thanks, dear. :)
nice to see a semi-popular (not sure, don't watch it) TV show actually has a clue. Maybe it'll educate some of the less than willfully ignorant folk out there to at least *think* about it.
