I few thoughts, on Chicago, which I enjoyed, but which I don't think will replace Moulin Rouge as my favorite modern movie musical anytime soon.
*Favorite Dance number - the "Cell Block Tango", I just really enjoyed it, both the song and the choreography on this were great. I also liked "All that Jazz" at the start, there was some nice group choreography in there as well as some nice costumes.
*Favorite Character/Actor - a tie between Catherine Zeta-Jone's Velma Kelly and Queen Latifah's Mama. Both women just made me smile. Latifah's solo number was fab and I honestly couldn't take my eyes off Zeta-Jones every time she stepped up.
*Most Annoying Character/Actor - another tie, between Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere. Somehing about Zellweger just grated on my nerves and I've never like Richard Gere, even back in his Pretty Woman days.
*Choreography - It was lovely to see so much Bob Fosse-esque choreography up on the screen, it's just such an amazing thing to watch. I can't dance like that, but it almost makes me wish I could.
*Costumes - pretty, though I think that Zeta-Jones filled her's out a bit better than Zellweger. The period is not my favorite, but there were some nice pieces (Zeta-Jones courtroom ensemble for example) and the dancing costumes were suitably sexy.
Yeah I liked it, but now I'm really looking forward to the showing of Moulin Rouge planned for the 22nd at the Prince Charles. I'm also thinking eventually I'd like to see the stage show, just to compare.
