Skating this week
Jan. 23rd, 2004 09:48 amWent to practice on Monday in Auburn and it was good. Tuesday started out okay with a pace line (long!) that I hung with for a bit, then did laps on my own. After that my group did 15 laps. Afterward is where it broke down. Chuck had group 2 do a pyramid relay up to 4 then back down in 4 person teams. This took so long that the only other thing I did all night was a 1 lap, 1 time relay. Needless to say, this was NOT a workout. Unfortunately, this was my last practice before the meet.
The story goes like this: in December John ordered the plastic for the floor from National skate, with plans to lay it down last Wednesday/Thursday (and canceled practice for that reason). The plastic didn't show up in time. Since John had to go to Las Vegas over the weekend, the floor couldn't get laid until Wednesday. The consequences to this are twofold (1) no practice Thursday since the floor needs to set (2) during the meet the floor will be sticky. If you fall, you will lose skin and the times are probably going to run slow. This is opposed to the sweetness the floor would have been given a week to cure.
None of this is ideal, but it is tolerable. Should make the meet all sorts of interesting. As a note: I've heard that Southgate has more people registered than Federal Way for this meet. Go us!
