Tea and Crumpets
Aug. 25th, 2001 12:07 amI woke up at 7:00am this morning. Normally this would mean I was running a touch late. Today, it meant that I had less than 30 minutes to get ready for the day and catch a bus to Ballard for a dental appointment. I made it...barely. Running the last block and 1/2 in bare feet was not my idea of fun. I also had no breakfast and had not packed my lunch.
This set the tone for my whole day. It was just shitty enough to annoy. It was one of those days when the job you like makes sure that every little annoyance comes up and begs to be noticed. As a dream it was halfway between a nightmare and one of those endlessly repeating boredom dreams. Same problems with different casts and different interpretations on a theme. Bleh.
On an up note, it was beautiful at lunch today. Not too hot, just enough sun so that I needed the glasses, but not enough to cause pain. I got to hit the Market right before work and it was beautiful to see how the world was beginning to start. There were a few tourists but it was mostly the vendors just finishing getting set up for the day, prepping for the oncoming rush. When I finally got breakfast at the Crumpet Shop I was reminded about why I like the city. A crumpet, fresh-brewed tea, and a book. The dren at work pales in comparison to that.
