The Train Ride: Is supposed to be about an hour from London Bridge. After an hour, we'd made it to Gatwick. After 2 hours we were in Brighton. Since I wasn't in a huge hurry I read an article, and looked at the scenery (actual hills! cows! horses! trees! - I really am easily amused).

In Brighton: I did the most important thing first - got my purse back. Then I continued walking the 3 blocks to the shore. It was lovely to look out on a body of salt water (the English Channel for those of you who care), hear the waves beating on the shore, and smell the salt in the air. London is as far away from a large body of salty water as I have been for a long period in my life, and I miss it. I wandered down the boardwalk, taking it all in, and then wandered back up. I stopped for some fish and chips, which I took onto the (rocky) beach and ate, watching the kids play in the surf. Then I wandered more, eventually stopping for a ice cream cone and settling on a quiet patch of beach near the West Pier.
I ate my ice cream, read some more, and gazed out over the water and the pier. I would have loved to have a camera, as the far end of the pier, even in the afternoon sun, just seems to be waiting for a King or Queen or maybe a fairy horde to rise from the water and float away on it. It also looks like a fine location for a Goblin Market ala Neverwhere. Note: the West Pier is the one that collapsed in December and then had 2 fires roar through it in March and May. It's nothing but a metal shell, with the end portion cut off from the rest. I might try to find a picture later.
During al this I had to resist the urge to go stick my toes in water, as had I done this, I would have been tempted to put my whole self into the water. Since I had no extra clothes with me, and was wearing jeans, this wasn't a fabulous idea. I headed home about 3pm, since I was tired, it was sunny, and my throat still hurt. It was hard to drag myself away, but the sensible part of my brain eventually won.

Home: The train ride back was swift and I came home to find that I have a bit of sun burn. Just along the top of my forehead, a spot I obviously missed on my morning application of sunblock (I put more on during the day). Hopefully it will fade fast, as it looks stupid. Took a nap, talked with mom, and made some veggie chili and rice. My throat is still being a punk and I've gone through nearly a whole bottle of fizzy water, which a least helps a bit. I'm thinking it's bedtime, as this whole lovely adventure has thrown of my work schedule and I want to get back on track tomorrow, as I'm going to try and pound out a first draft by next week. Plus, I need to hit the gym.

Still though, it was a nice day. Sometimes sitting by the water, the sun warming you, and a heavy breeze playing over your skin is all you need. Fish and chips is good too. :)
